Yahoo News was the most visited U.S. news site in April, market research Experian Hitwise said in its latest report on the online News and Media industry. Yahoo! News accounted for 7.69% of traffic, The Weather Channel - US came in second at 3.97%, MSNBC third at 3.49%. CNN.com was only 4th at 2.92% and Google News fifth at 2.34%. 7. In comparison, New York Times had a 1.56% market share only. However, the market share of visits percentage for weather.com, cnn.com and nytimes.com does not include traffic to sub domains of these websites which are reported on separately, Experian Hitwise said. “The News and Media category includes websites of magazines and newspapers, and news relating to the computer and IT industry. The category includes e-zines of a general nature, covering a variety of subject areas,” it said. Some local websites have soared in rank in the four months to April 2010. The two main ones are: ELLE Décor, a magazine dedicated to home decor, winning 2344 places, and Internet.com the provider of global real-time news and information resources for the Internet industry and professionals all round and experienced Internet users, gaining 1002 places. The average visit duration for visits to the online 'News and Media' industry was 7 minutes, 50 seconds for the month of April, 2010 – slight decrease from last months average visit duration of 7 minutes, 57 seconds.
